The decline in union power over the past 40 years has dramatically increased income inequality and has allowed corporate greed to flourish. Union membership is good for workers. Period. Union workers earn over 20% more than their non-union counterparts, enjoy better benefits including healthcare coverage and are much less likely to be the victims of wage theft and safety violations. In Massachusetts only 12% of workers belong to a union and we have a responsibility to encourage significant growth through protecting the rights of workers and holding companies that engage in union-busting accountable.
Together we will:
Together we will:
- Fully investigate claims of labor law violations through the Department of Labor Relations and increase penalties for companies found to be guilty of violations.
- Amend the Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave and Earned Sick Time benefits to include the over 240,000 municipal workers that were left out.
- Ban the permanent replacement of striking workers.
- Ban mandatory anti-union meetings.
- Pass additional benefits for those working outside of the home during COVID.
- Prioritize union workers in state government contracts.
- Update and enforce workplace health and safety standards.
- Allow public employee unions to collect agency fees from non-union members.
- Hold employers accountable when they subcontract to companies that engage in wage theft
